O Porto de Sines e a Zona Industrial e Logística de Sines (ZILS) iniciaram conversações com o Canal do Suez no sentido de promover a cooperação tecnológica e prestação de serviços com base nos sistemas portugueses “JUP – Janela Única Portuária” e “JUL – Janela Única Logística” por um lado, e os negócios, com ênfase na logística intercontinental de produtos agrícolas e alimentares por outro.
Foi com o propósito central de promover a Zona de Actividades Logísticas de Sines (ZAL Sines), como uma base para a consolidação e trânsito de bens do agronegócio, que representantes do Complexo Portuário, Logístico e Industrial de Sines tiveram reuniões de trabalho no Cairo e no Canal do Suez no dia 1 de outubro.
A ZAL Sines é um conjunto de duas áreas, uma intraportuária de cerca de 30ha no Porto de Sines e uma extraportuária, contígua, de cerca de 270ha na Zona Industrial e Logística de Sines. A ZAL Sines é servida pelo Porto de Sines e por um sistema rodoferroviário de grande capacidade integrado num dos principais eixos multimodais da Rede Transeuropeia de Transportes
