Sonae Arauco avança na descarbonização com resultados sólidos

Sonae Arauco strengthens its contribution to decarbonisation with a 41% reduction in GHG emissions

aicep Global Parques highlights Sonae Arauco’s commitment to climate transition in general and, in particular, the positive impact of its operation in ZILS – Sines Industrial and Logistics Zone.

The latest Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Report confirms a 41% reduction in total emissions since 2019 and a 16% decrease in the last year.

Carbon intensity fell by 38%, and in 2024, emissions from scopes 1, 2 and 3 reached 1.18 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent, in results externally validated. In ZILS, this progress reinforces the presence of industrial operators committed to environmental targets and strengthens ZILS and Sines as a territory prepared for a low-carbon economy. Sonae Arauco’s activity in Sines aligns with this direction by modernising processes and adopting more efficient energy solutions.

In Portugal, measures include replacing natural gas with renewable energy, increasing the share of electricity from clean sources and advancing the electrification of fleets and equipment. Internationally, the group continues to invest in renewable energy and circular-economy practices, which have already enabled a 39% reduction in scope 3 emissions since 2019.

Sonae Arauco maintains its target of reducing emissions by at least 58.8% by 2033, integrating carbon metrics into investment planning and developing decarbonisation roadmaps for each industrial unit.

For aicep Global Parques, these results reinforce the relevance of ZILS as a sustainable and competitive industrial location, contributing to the positioning of Sines as a reference in the energy transition.
