Sines accelerates strategic investment
During the “Fora da Caixa” event in Sines, organised by Caixa Geral de Depósitos on 3 March, aicep Global Parques, through its CEO Isabel Caldeira Cardoso, highlighted the growing role of Sines, specifically ZILS – Sines Industrial and Logistics Zone, as a strategic hub for industrial, logistics and technology investment. She also presented the over €25 billion in projects and leads preparing to establish operations in the region in the coming years.
“We are witnessing a strong momentum of investment intentions, reflecting the confidence of national and international companies in Sines’ industrial and logistics ecosystem” said Isabel Caldeira Cardoso, emphasising that this portfolio of projects, whether already contracted or in the lead phase, represents tangible opportunities for economic growth, creation of skilled jobs, and strengthening of value chains in Portugal.
At the same event, the CEO also mentioned the launch of a study on the economic and social impact of the Sines port and industrial complex. The study aims to rigorously quantify the region’s contribution to the national economy and support public policy formulation and investment decisions. “It is essential to have a solid knowledge base to communicate the real value of this cluster to the Government and investors, and to reinforce the need for infrastructure and services that can accompany growth”, explained Isabel Caldeira Cardoso. This study will be launched under the Invest In Alentejo Programme of ADRAL.
Pedro do Ó Ramos, Chairman of the Board of APS, also emphasised in his speech the strategic importance of Sines and the need to enhance transport connections, including the new Évora–Badajoz railway link, which will allow the Port of Sines to compete directly with the Port of Valencia in accessing the hinterland, reducing transport times and increasing Portugal’s logistics competitiveness. This development makes the port infrastructure even more attractive for cargo flows and international operators.
For Isabel Caldeira Cardoso, “Sines is not just an investment hub. It is a platform that combines advanced industry, efficient logistics and global market access”, representing a unique opportunity to strengthen Portugal’s presence in global value chains.
