Sines strengthens its industrial position with the reactivation of Cimpor’s Grinding Plant
As reported by Cimpor in June, the company has reactivated and modernised the Sines Grinding Plant Production Centre, an investment that reinforces its decarbonisation strategy and contributes to the economic development of the region.
Following a technological conversion process, the facility has resumed operations with a focus on the production of Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBFS), a raw material that enables the manufacture of cement and concrete with a lower carbon footprint. With the capacity to process more than 400,000 tonnes per year, the plant began operations with 2,500 tonnes already ready for dispatch.
Its strategic location close to the Port of Sines provides a significant competitive advantage, facilitating the receipt of raw materials and the distribution of products to both domestic and international markets.
The reactivation of this facility also makes a positive contribution to the local economy through job creation and the involvement of regional companies and suppliers.
This investment further strengthens the role of the Sines region and ZILS – Sines Industrial and Logistics Zone as one of Portugal’s leading industrial and logistics hubs, offering the conditions needed to attract projects focused on innovation, competitiveness and the transition to a low-carbon economy.
