Galp completes installation of modules at new green hydrogen plant in ZILS
Galp has completed the installation of the last of the ten 10 MW electrolysis modules for its new green hydrogen production unit under construction at the Sines Refinery, located in ZILS – Sines Industrial and Logistics Zone. The facility is expected to enter operation in the second half of 2026 and will be the largest of its kind in Europe at that time.
Replacing grey hydrogen with green hydrogen will reduce around 110,000 tonnes of CO₂ and support the development of low-carbon fuels, such as SAF and HVO. The unit will have the capacity to produce up to 15,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen per year, replacing approximately 20 per cent of the hydrogen currently used in the refinery’s operations, marking a significant step in the decarbonisation process.
This project strengthens ZILS’ position as a strategic hub for the energy transition, at the forefront of industrial decarbonisation and renewable energy development in Portugal and Europe.
