Portugal strengthens its position in the data centre sector
According to the latest Iberian Region Snapshot report by Colliers (October 2025 – March 2026), Portugal is experiencing a strong acceleration in the data centre sector, driven by international connectivity, institutional support and strong interest from major investors.
The country already exceeds 2.6 GW of planned IT capacity, with the Lisbon region recording significant growth, rising from 373 MW to 1,389 MW in one year. This momentum is reflected in the entry and expansion of several international operators, including Merlin Edged, AtlasEdge and Digital Realty.
Outside the capital, Sines stands out, where Start Campus represents one of the largest projects in the sector in Europe, with 1,169 MW of planned IT capacity. In this context, ZILS – Sines Industrial and Logistics Zone plays a strategic role in attracting large-scale digital infrastructure, benefiting from its location, proximity to energy and port infrastructure, and strong international connectivity through submarine cables.
The report also highlights Portugal’s position as a competitive location for hyperscale and artificial intelligence projects, further consolidating its role in the European digital infrastructure landscape.
